⁵ when anyone becomes aware that they are guilty in any of these matters, they must confess^(A) in what way they have sinned.

⁴⁰ “‘But if they will confess^(A) their sins^(B) and the sins of their ancestors^(C)—their unfaithfulness and their hostility toward me,

Restitution for Wrongs

⁵ The Lord said to Moses, ⁶ “Say to the Israelites: ‘Any man or woman who wrongs another in any way^[a] and so is unfaithful^(A) to the Lord is guilty^{(B) 7} and must confess^(C) the sin they have committed. They must make full restitution^(D) for the wrong they have done, add a fifth of the value to it and give it all to the person they have wronged.

¹⁰ Then the Israelites cried^(A) out to the Lord, “We have sinned^(B) against you, forsaking our God and serving the Baals.”^(C)

¹⁵ But the Israelites said to the Lord, “We have sinned. Do with us whatever you think best,^(A) but please rescue us now.”

¹⁰ They cried^(A) out to the Lord and said, ‘We have sinned; we have forsaken^(B) the Lord and served the Baals and the Ashtoreths.^(C) But now deliver us from the hands of our enemies, and we will serve you.’
